Hi Mike,

I was wondering when approximately the latest IOC update will be available on your website? Keep up the good work!

Best regards,

Pieter de Groot Boersma

Hi Pieter

Note that v14.2 has not been released by IOC yet and is still draft. After it is released, and the 14.2 spreadsheet published, we will update it as soon as we can get around to it, which is usually within a week.

The IOC updates have been published and we will process these on BUBO Listing very shortly. We'll do them over a few days probably, so don't worry if you see some but not all available. We'll post again when they are complete.

A reminder if anyone wants a tedious job:  bubo.org/bubo-forum/12-world/1557-upcomi...-bellied-pipits.html ... :-)

Many thanks you guys for the speedy implementation of version 14.2 of the IOC World Bird List - it being a particularly extensive one!

I wonder when the BOU will follow suit and lump the Redpoll complex on the British list?

Kind regards,

Jeremy Hurley

BOU stopped thinking for themselves some years ago; they now automatically adopt what the IOC do, unfortunately.

I rely pretty much entirely on BUBO for my lists, not keeping an independent record, and I'm a bit miffed I now have no record of when I first saw Mealy Redpolls, btw!

I will look into sending an email notification when any lumps happen in future so that any details of the sighting on people's lists don't get lost. Thankfully lumps aren't too common, but watch out for those Crossbills in future...!
Regarding your Redpolls Elizabeth, I'll send you an email shortly.

Having worked through a load of lists last week I now see I have 30 more to edit - all seem to involve scrubbing Lesser and/or Arctic Redpoll. I was hoping that this would have been done centrally but I guess users might lose dates of first sightings etc so it is presumably you guys being considerate - great work.

Hi Steve

Actually it didn't quite work as it was supposed to. We combine details of the "old" taxa into the notes of the "new" taxon so that first dates are not lost, so for the new Redpoll you should see something like, e.g. "Also Common Redpoll Acanthis flammea 1 Jan 1993 Burton Mill Pond, West Sussex; Arctic Redpoll Acanthis hornemanni 15 Jan 2005 Titchwell" and then we automatically remove the old lumped taxon so you don't have to do it yourself. This worked for IOC and BOU Britain ok, but not for BOU Scottish and English lists, which are subsets of Britain, which is a subset of the World, if you see what I mean! It gets a bit complicated!

Hopefully we'll smooth this out before they lump Scottish Crossbill...

Following the lumping of Redpolls I amended Lesser Redpoll to Redpoll in my Swillington Ings Bird Group 2024 List. Whilst there are still 119 birds listed, the page title and the “All Lists” shows a total of 120 species. How to I rectify this?
